Harrington on Cash Games Vol. I
In Harrington on Cash Games: Volume I, Dan Harrington teaches you the key concepts that drive deep-stack cash game play. You'll learn how to tailor your selection of starting hands to your stack size, how to recognize the increasing deception value of supposedly weaker hands as the stack sizes increase, and how to use the concept of pot commitment to your advantage as the size of the pot grows. After laying out the general concepts behind deep-stack cash game play, Harrington shows you a complete strategy for post-flop play, and then teaches you the difference between post-flop play against a single opponent and post-flop play against multiple opponents.
If you play no-limit hold em cash games, you need to read Harrington on Cash Games .
Harrington on Cash Games, Volume II
Harrington on Hold'em, Volume 2 is a worthy follow-on to Harrington and Robertie's exceptional first volume. While the previous book focused on play in early rounds of the tournament, and thus was extremely valuable to cash game players as well as for tournaments, Volume 2 is exclusively a book for tournament players. If I had to express a preference, I would have to say that I found Volume 1 to marginally better than Volume 2, but it's a close call. The bottom line is that they are both exceptional books, and I recommend them highly.
Harrington on Hold 'em Vol. 1: Strategic Play
Harrington and Robertie have produced an excellent top 10 poker book on no-limit hold'em tournament poker. The ideas in this book are well-reasoned and clearly expressed. This may not be the best poker book for inexperienced players, but it is an excellent book for those with a even a modest amount of experience. Although Harrington on Hold'em focuses on no-limit tournament poker, I believe this game is valuable for no-limit cash game players as well. Consequently, I would recommend that all no-limit hold'em players eventually pick up and study this book.
Harrington on Hold 'em Vol. 2: Endgame
In the first volume of this series, Harrington on Hold ’em: Volume I: Strategic Play, Dan Harrington explained how to play in the early phases of tournaments, when most players at the table had plenty of chips, and the blinds and antes were small. This book, Harrington on Hold ’em: Volume II: The Endgame shows you how to play in the later phases of a tournament, when the field has been cut down, the blinds and antes are growing, and the big prize money is within sight. Harrington shows you how to make moves, handle tricky inflection point plays, and maneuver when the tournament is down to its last few players and the end is in sight. He’s also included a whole chapter on heads-up play, whose strategies up to now have been a closely-guarded secret of the game’s top masters.
Harrington on Hold 'em: Vol. III--The Workbook
Dan Harrington is a world class pro who has won more tournaments than most players even dream of, and Harrington on Hold'em, Volume III is another top 10 poker book from one of the greats of tournament poker. The quizzes, answers and analysis are top notch and leave few players second guessing the conclusions.
This book is not aimed at complete beginners thus there is no glossary, hand strength chart, or beginner chapter. If you are a total novice, you would be better off reading a beginner book that will teach you the basics, something this book does not. However, all you tournament players seeking enlightenment through example hands and quizzes, this IS the book for you.
Just as Dan Harrington's previous works are strongly recommended, so too is Harrington on Hold'em, Volume III. It is a cornerstone in any serious tournament player's bookshelf.
